Face Thread Lift For V-Shape Face And Tighter Skin: How Does It Work?

In recent years, thread lift in Singapore has become one of the most popular aesthetic treatments around due to its powerful skin lifting and tightening effects. The procedure can effectively lift and tighten the skin around the face, neck, and chin areas to deliver a more youthful look. Besides treating the sagging skin, a thread lift can also help restore a perfect V shape face that everyone adores.

What Is A Face Thread Lift?

Face thread lift is a non-surgical procedure that uses temporary sutures for creating a subtle yet noticeable lifting effect in the skin around different facial areas. During the procedure, the doctor does not surgically remove any loose skin from the patient’s face, rather minor ‘stitching’ is performed in the targeted areas. This results in slightly pulling the skin back and lifting and tightening it.

A Thread Lift can also be an ideal choice to fight the aging signs because it triggers the natural collagen production in the targeted areas, resulting in more youthful skin and appearance.

How Does Thread Lift Work?

various types of pdo threads for skin tightening

Thread lift uses different types of threads to create a tightening effect in the facial skin with PDO threads being used more widely. Three types of PDO threads are generally used in a Face Thread Lift procedure: mono, cog, and screw threads.

Mono threads don’t have any barbs and are smooth threads that are anchored to the scalp or the face of the patient. They’re used for skin tightening, and volumizing and produce a very subtle lifting effect.

Cog threads come with barbs that can be hooked onto the patient’s skin and offer support and a lifting effect for the sagging skin tissue. The threads adhere to skin tissue like Velcro, allowing the skin to be repositioned to enhance existing contours on top of its lifting benefits.

Screw threads feature 1-2 threads intertwined around a needle, and they help restore volume to improve the appearance of deep creases on the face. They can improve the elasticity and texture of the skin significantly.

What To Expect From A Thread Lift?

The patients must set realistic expectations from a thread lift procedure as it cannot create drastic facial changes as in the case of surgery. Generally, a thread lift can lift the skin only by a few millimeters to create more natural and subtler results as compared to surgical facelifts.

The patients initially notice lifting results instantly after the procedure along with a skin rejuvenating effect because of the increase in collagen production which continues on for almost 6-8 weeks after the treatment. The procedure uses completely biodegradable threads that are safely absorbed into the skin over the next 10-11 months.

A Face Thread Lift can effectively tighten loose jowls, restore hollow cheeks with some added volume, lift cheeks with mild-to-moderate sagging, smoothen lines and folds around the chin and nose usually caused by the slipping fat pads as a result of the natural aging process.

Thread Lift is ideally done on individuals between their late 30s to early 50s. It can also be a good alternative to surgical facelifts in patients older than 55 years who, generally, can’t undergo surgeries because of different age-related or medical conditions like type 2 diabetes, high blood pressure, and cardiovascular health issues. Thread lift is also recommended as a maintenance treatment for those who have undergone facelift surgery.

How Is A Thread Lift Performed?

process of thread lift treatment

Before the procedure is carried out, some preparation is necessary to make sure the patient is ready to undergo a thread lift. A week prior to the procedure, the candidates for face thread lift should stop smoking and avoid alcohol intake as they can have a dehydrating effect on their skin. In addition, they can also affect the anesthetic. The candidates should also avoid all aspirin-based medication including Neurofen, Ibuprofen, Naproxen, etc. That’s because they can result in unnecessary bleeding and undesirable side effects and complications during and after the procedure.

Before the procedure starts, the doctor applies local anesthesia around the treatment area to create a numbing effect on the patient’s skin. Patients can also choose to be sedated for better comfort. Next, based on the thread type being used in the procedure and the desired results to be achieved, they insert a long cannula or a needle syringe that holds the threads into the targeted area, reaching the underlying layer of fat. At one end, the thread is anchored carefully to the firmer underlying structures whereas the other end of the thread goes beneath the skin, following a predetermined path until it reaches the desired endpoint.

When the needle is withdrawn by the doctor, the suture filaments are deposited effectively into the facial parts that have been sagging. In the next step, the doctor pulls or massages these threads for elevating the droopy skin so that it could be set into a tightened, more lifted position.

A face thread lift procedure, generally, takes around 20-30 minutes. Even though the procedure is almost painless, the patients can expect sensations from needle prickling or feel ant bites and tugging or dragging of the threads.

Who Is Eligible For A Thread Lift?

Generally, there are no age limitations to undergoing a thread lift. As soon as the individuals start noticing the signs of aging and sagging, they become eligible to undergo a thread lift procedure even if they are in their 30s.

Individuals who do not have any sagging skin but want to undergo a more powerful treatment for tightening and firming their skin can also undergo this procedure.

Ideally, the procedure should be done on individuals who are:

  • In their late 30s to early 50s
  • Afraid of surgical facelifts
  • Experiencing medical conditions like type two diabetes, cardiovascular problems, and high blood pressure and can’t undergo surgeries
  • Interested in subtler skin tightening effect with fewer risks involved

Who May Not Be Suitable For A Face Thread Lift?

There are some people who may not be suitable candidates to undergo a face thread lift procedure. These include:

  • Women who are breastfeeding or currently pregnant
  • Individuals suffering from rosacea or cystic acne
  • Individuals with hypersensitivity or allergy to any of the ingredients used in these threads
  • Individuals who have autoimmune diseases
  • Individuals with an active skin infection/inflammation

Some key benefits of a thread lift procedure include:

  • Instant results
  • Minimally invasive treatment with fewer risks
  • Minimal downtime is required in comparison to surgical lifts
  • A subtle lifting and firming effect
  • Little to no pain during the procedure

For How Long Do The Results Last?

The results of a face thread lift, generally, last for around 18-24 months. The skin is lifted right after the treatment. In the start, it may look taut, but the results start looking more natural after a week or so.

This is a treatment that can be repeated over the years to maintain the results, unlike a surgical facelift. Subtle to moderate improvements can be achieved through thread lift to enhance facial contours or lift selective areas of the face where necessary. Though it is commonly used to enhance the v-line, it is also applicable to other areas such as the neck, eye, and forehead area.

Conclusion

The face thread lift for a v-shape face and tighter skin has become a popular aesthetic procedure in recent times. It’s a non-invasive treatment that delivers more natural results with fewer risks involved as compared to surgical facelifts. Given that there are pros and cons as well as limitations, it is best that you speak to a qualified plastic surgeon in Singapore about the possible improvements you can achieve from a Thread Lift treatment.
