Enlarged pores

Smaller pores and a more refined skin texture.

What Are Enlarged Pores?

Enlarged pores are usually associated to oily skin and acne. In most cases, blackhead (open comedones) are clearly visible within the pore. An inflammatory case of acne may result in enlarged pores because it weakens the sebaceous glands and the openings of the hair follicles. As a result, they will be more susceptible to blockage, which prolongs and aggravates acne.

Other factors associated to pore enlargement include:

  • Hair follicle size
  • Loss of skin elasticity with age
  • Increased sebum production
  • Sun damage
  • Use of comedogenic products

Treatments for Enlarged Pores

Pore size reduction treatments are aimed at treating the underlying cause. They improve your skin health by reducing sebum output, controlling your androgen activity, or stimulating the synthesis of elastin and collagen.

Topical Cream Treatment

Acne vulgaris can be treated with topical retinoid creams (with Vitamin A). They also have important antiaging effects.

Topical retinoids are similar to vitamin A and benefit the skin by promoting cell turnover. They also have anti-inflammatory effects and reduce the formation of whiteheads and blackheads.

Oral Treatments

Oral medications for acne are also effective at controlling sebum output in 4-6 weeks. Most patients report notable improvements in their enlarged pores, comedones, and inflammatory acne after starting the medication treatment.

We also have oral medications for acne with an anti-androgen effect that ultimately reduce oil production.

Carbon Lasers for Enlarged Pores

A carbon laser peel is a revolutionary treatment that uses laser to exfoliate and refresh the skin. This treatment is non-invasive and painless, with minimal to zero downtime. It is recommended if you have blackheads, enlarged pores, oily skin, dull skin, and acne vulgaris. After one session, you will note instant improvements, with a more refreshed appearance, an a softer skin that feels smooth and firm.

Liquid carbon will be initially applied on the treatment area, and it will penetrate the pores. Then, laser light will be directed to the problem area, where it is attracted by carbon particles. Directed by carbon, it will destroy contaminants, oil, and dead skin cells.

It also regenerates the skin by thermal energy, which stimulates the production of collagen for a fresh appearance.

This type of carbon peels should be accompanied by a suitable skin-care routine. You are also encouraged to use high-spectrum sunscreen for a noticeable and durable result. For long-term results, we also encourage regular treatments as recommended by our doctor.

These treatments to reduce pores have something in common. They do not cause any discomfort or pain. You may feel a sensation similar to that of pins or thin needles. They are versatile and reach difficult areas, including the nose.
